What do we do?
The main function of Lentil is to make food available to the community with no barriers. The anonymous donation left in our boxes is a commentary on the generosity of the community. We value equality. When we can engage with everyone on the same level, we can trully appreciate our differences and uniqueness. The team al Lentil consists of a core of experienced hospitality staff generously giving of their time to make possible an unprecedented movement through food, workplace inclusion, training and bound together by trust.

How do we use the money?
The money donated to Lentil funds the 3 restaurants that make available 1000 meals per day. Whilts we cannot afford to pay an entire workforce we are resourced by a large and energetic body of volunteers. The money is also used to create opportunities for those who are looking to establish themselves in our community.

What do we provide to the community besides food?

  • Employment placement for people unable to get a foot in the door of workplace cuture.
  • Councelling services for people from traumatized backgrounds and those in situation of social hardship.
  • An opportunity to interface with a broad cross section of society.
  • Barista training.
  • Chef Training.
  • Travel opportunities to country victoria to connect with the rural population through the Tree Planting Weekends with Wimmera Cathment Authority.
  • Sponsorship in 3 visas streams.
  • A platform for emerging writers through our partnership with Ilura Press.

How does Lentil benefit the community?
We will never know how many people have benefitted from the ability to have a meal in dignity without attention being brought to their financial circumstances. Anonimity plays a large role in the preservation of dignity. Whilts traditionally money becomes a divisive force - we employ money to bring people together. Nowhere in Australia is the spirit of inclusion more nakedly on display.
